car breakdown

Options
Hi
I hope some one can help. We have a three year old renault scenic- just out of warranty. In June under warranty we had a new gear box fitted. It has just gone again. It has cost me 65 pounds to extend my RAC cover to at home and more so far for taxis to parents evening. The garage is saying no courtesy cars available and they don't know when they'll look at the car or fix it. We have one car and need it to get around, work, school etc.Where do we stand? Can we hire one and make the garage foot the bill as the gear box is only 3 mths old?HELP!
thanks

Patchwork cat, I'm moving this over to the motoring board as it would be better suited there.

Is the recently fitted gearbox under warranty / guarantee? If so, do you have a copy of the terms and conditions? It should state whether you can get a replacement vehicle while you wait for the repairs.

Somone more qualified will arrive before long and be more helpful, I'm sure...

If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

We never received any paper work for any work done on our 3 year new car warranty.

I can sympathise. I am in the process of getting a new gearbox on a four year old Freelander at a cost of £1500. This is the first new car I have ever had and definitely the last! It cost a fortune and has had numerous new parts in the four years I have had it. Surely this must be an offence under Trading Standards or something, as obviously the gear boxes on both our cars are not lasting as long as they should be. There is no way I can afford a new gearbox every four years in addition to the brake discs which seem to go every year and the fuel pumps which only last five minutes!
Any advice would be gratefully received.
  • Hi
Yes I agree this is our second car from new, but I think we have a lemon. Shockabsorbers have gone numerous starting problems requiring the AA call out. Oil leaks that come back and back. I did my research before I bought this car, but now I've got it eveyone says oh yes Scenic rear shockers, starter problems notorious! What cars are reliable and affordable?

An update customer services at Renault have authorised a free hire car. Thank you customer services. So my advice would be to anyone who has a car just out of warranty with a big fault or recurring fault contact your manufacturer's customer services. I haven't got my car back mended yet, but fingers crossed. thanks all
