My grandmother had chickens and cats together, and the cats always came off worst. :rotfl:

Anyone know how to make a "cheep" hen house???
Green and minimal chemicals is the new black- I know a fair old bit about sustainability, specially energy and transport stuff. If I can help- please ask!

i'd love to take some on but i'm sure my collie would never give them peace!

do they need much room? i mean, obviously they're used to living indoors :( do you keep them in sheds with a run, a bit like rabbits?

i bet i could find people who would be interested! i'll spread the word :)
take a look at falshaw arks or type in chicken houseing they do not need much room i have 9 granted i have over 150ft garden but they are kept in one place with a secure run as we have a wood located next to us so old foxy pays a visit on occasion i bought mine pol but battery hens are as good as any and will pay for there keep with eggs , it also depends if you keep them as a pet if you eat them a chicken is at its best around 2 and a bit years .

Anyone know where to get a cheap hen ark / house ?

    Barry

Make them out of pallets e.g.

or just interlock them and line them with discarded laminate flooring (horrible stuff, best use for it IMHO)

Other plans exist of course, but will normally cost more to build than the cost of hens you are housing.

Any old shed or shelter can be bought into use with a little bit of conversion.

As many as they 'rescue' the farmer just buys in more, then lets them be 'rescued' again when they have come to the end of their working life. Sad really, but reality.
