Hey everyone,
Well its quite evident to me now - Toucan is the worst broadband supplier in the UK at the moment. However due to a contract, I can't change ISP's until the end of the year
Usually my broadband line can reach a max capacity of 3.7Mbps - which is good enough - HOWEVER lately (past 2-3 weeks) connections have been ranging around the 1.7-2.4Mbps mark (off and on peak times)
This is really frustrating and annoying as download speeds are v.slow now - is there anyway I can check to see why this has happened?? (with contacting the rubbish toucan customer line as a last resort)
many thanks!

if you're getting a 2mb line, you should be getting download speeds of 200kbps.. which is more than enough for standard web surfing, and even downloading larger files..
if your 2mb line is not giving you a decent 200kbps download speed, then you should complain to your broadband provider.
IMO 2mb is perfectly fine for most people, unless you're heavily downloading loads of things that ain't legal..

stuck on a 2mb line as he lives out in the sticks0 -

Just another point to add, few weeks before I was getting download speeds of around 260-300kbps now its barely reaching 200kbps - obviously something has happened with Toucan for this to occur0 -
There are a few things that you could try to see why your speeds have dropped,
could be congestion on the tucan core netwrok which is most likley or something has changed, have you added any new phones to the house?
Is it any specifc times of day??
sky? are you on an extension for the phone or in the main bt socket?
If you aren't in the main bt socket try the Main bt socket and if you can the test socket which is found by unscrewing the mian bt socket.
if you notice a marked improvment from main socket to test socket the wiring and curcuits on the faceplate are causeingthe issue.
Hope this helps0 -
You might want to note the difference between kbits and kbytes there.
1 - 2 Mbits/sec is good for most things though.
My Toucan connection dropped to 100kbits/sec which isnt good for anything. I gave them 2 months and they still couldnt sort it.
Changing ISP i now get 6Mbits/sec
