Never mind peeps. I have decided to go with a Linux based
system as it recognises the stick automatically.

This is the distro I will be using
    http://www.earos.dk/

Works sweet as a nut and will be the start of a HTPC/PVR.

nicely spotted, i missed that one, how does it compare to media portal?, have been looking for a alternative for a while will get that and see how it does.

Been playing with it today and it seems to
do the job nicely, although I am going to
need a decent aerial to get a stable
    image on all channels.

Lots of nice features and easy to
configure. I was looking at using MythTV
but it seemed like a lot of hassle having
    to install and configure frontend/backend.

I would recommend giving EarOS a try,
it works as a LiveCD so you can try
without installing to HDD to make sure
    your hardware is compatible first.

I know you say that you've got an alternative o/s now but just in case you want to give it another try, search for 'AF9015Driver' and try those, it worked for me with Vista ( included are XP drivers).
