Not sure if this should be posted here but fell free to move it if it is wrong
My OH is going away for business tomorrow (early morning) for work (obviously) my mum mentioned is he getting extra pay for going away as this is normally standard practice as a kind of compensation for being away from home? just wondered if this it true, when i spoke to OH he didnt think his company did it.
Is is standard practice? I mean he's going to be away in romania till sunday.

Hubby never got any sort of compensation for this sort of trip of similar duration.
I think it would be different it was weeks or months....just a pain or an ideal opportunity for some me time I think!2014 Target;

Forgive me, but white collar or blue collar? He'd stand marginally more chance if his job falls in the latter category. However, in this day and age that kind of allowance is rare in the private sector.
Best we ever get is a tenner per day to call home...I really must stop loafing and get back to work...0 -
Mr Sunshine is an engineer. At his old UK company subsistance and overseas allowance were written in his contract of empoyment. If he was 'away from home' in the UK, £x per day was paid to cover lodgings and food, if he got it cheaper he pocketed the diff. When he went overseas he got £x per day which got paid and taxed in his next month's salary plus reasonable hotel costs and food on top.
So if there's nothing in his contract i'd say he'll prob not get anything, sorry.0 -
If I have to work away from home for more than a day (which is very rare, twive in 4 years) then I get a standard £X per day overnight allowance no matter what I spend. If I actually have to work longer hours then I can claim overtime as well.0

I've been away with work and beyond claiming for travel and meals, get nothing extra. I should be grateful that the hotel is always on account. At the moment we have to pay out for our own evening meal and claim it later. A couple of nights away plus a full tank of petrol make a fair dent in my monthly salary. Really resent having to use my own money up front. On the plus side, a relative used to work for British Gas and back then they paid an allowance, saying it covered things like getting a gardener in if you weren't there to do it yourself.One half of the world cannot understand the pleasures of the other0

hubby just gets his accomodation, travel and meals paid for. I quite enjoy his away trips, wednesday to sunday aint that bad, you'll be soo busy with the kids, you wont know he is gone !!! its amazing how organised my home becomes when Mr. funky goes away ... lol !! kids actually go to bed on time, no playing up, and I actually do get me time. when he rings to say how lonely he is and how homesick he is, I just mmmmm !!!!! I am used to him being away mind, he actually only just made the birth of number one, and totally missed number 2's birth !! trying to plan number 3 now ! make the most of it !!!0

I get a £4 overnight allowance to cover "incidentals", but that's it. Hardly make or break but it all adds up. We have specific allowances for dinner & breakfast, but if I stay overnight with a friend rather than in a hotel (ie save the company the cost of a hotel) then I'm allowed to claim for buying them dinner as well.0

It is very rare to get anything in return.
Instead, look at it as exciting. If he doesn't go away with work normally, look at it as a treat to stay in a hotel for him, and for you a night in to pamper yourself. Alternatively you could consider asking your mum to have the little one and go with him. If you find a room only place and pick up breakfast in a cafe instead of the hotel restaurant you could both have a nice night away, and go shopping while he works the following day.
It is very common to be expected to go away on business now, and to accept it is part of the job and what you are paid to do. My husband is away two nights a week on most occasions. It is inconvenient and upsetting for him to be away from our little one, but in the end it is a job, we aren't doing too badly because of it, and we are just trying to look on the bright side of it and try for me to book up to go with him when I can get child care (which is rare) or make use of a night in and read a good book, soak in the bath, or catch up on calls with friends.0 -
I thought it was probably the case that he wasn't entitled to anything. They are paying all his expenses but he has had to use his own money up front for cash the rest if he can he will stick on the company credit card He was really grumpy last night but i think he was just nervous as this is his first business trip. thanks for all the advice anyway.Other women want a boob job.
