Income support, IB50 and medical.

Hello Everyone. My first post here on MSE but I have been browsing for sometime.

Please excuse me for this being my first post/thread and it being all about myself but I just need to ask it with the hope that someone else is in a similar situation to myself.

I have been getting Income Support since June 2007.In October 2007 I failed to give any Doctors' notes to the Job Centre so my claim was stopped. I provided them with a note from October 2007 to January 2008 in January this year but I haven't provided anymore so I have money "waiting to be released" from October 2007 until present.

I have called the Job Centre and they have called my Doctor to get some evidence. Now the funny thing is my CPN (nurse) says the Doctor wont issue any more notes without seeing me yet my doctor told the Job Centre he will gladly issue them if my nurse says to do so.

The problem is I suffer from depression and general/social anxiety. It has been a long on going thing since I was 10, I am now 19 years old. I was awarded DLA middle rate in March this year which was back dated to October 2007. Now the Job Centre won't pay my income support as I am not on higher rate DLA yet the specialist at the DWP in Leeds swears I am entitled to it without any medical or doctors' notes. An adviser came to visit my father this morning on my behalf and he explained to him the situation and he said the same but the Job Centre won't budge.

I have a lovely fiancee living with me at the moment, she is 18 in July. The Job Centre says I have been awarded the couples rate from last November until present and the DLA premium even though I am not currently getting any money.

When and if I go out I always require assistance. I have panic attacks in the street and just break down. I can't even answer the phone, but I can call particular places such as the Job Centre but only if I speak to a specific person and it takes a lot out of me.

I sent in an IB50 back in March and they have requested a medical several times in the past but I couldn't go. After a lot of discussions and arrangements I went to a medical last Thursday with assitance from my finacee, a week ago tomorrow and haven't heard anything.

To add to everything my mother was terminally ill for a good year and the house has had strangers in and out for so long, my mother passed away just over two weeks ago and it just adds to everything.

What I want to know is and I understand it may be impossible to reply to but how long does it usually take to hear anything? The Job Centre said they will call me and it usually takes 15 points for a medical to pass. I am really worried as I am struggling to live off of DLA alone and if I fail and need to appeal I cannot do an "in person" appeal.

What is the current situation for people like myself getting passed?

You should hear the result in about 3 or 4 weeks, but sometimes it can be quicker than that. Also I have read of some people having to wait months before they hear the result. If you were assessed just under mental health, you require 10 points to pass the medical.

If you want the IS arrears, then you need to send a sick note from Jan 08>.
No sick note= no giro.

If you pass the IB medical test, then you won't need to submit any further sick notes from then, but you need them upto then.

The Job Centre has informed me that it can take upto 10 days for a reply and I won't require any futher sick notes for past, present or the future if I pass.

It has been 7 days. I will wait for a reply until tomorrow night and enquire.

I would wait until you hear from the DWP in writing regarding past sick notes (and ten days would be a very quick turnaround, so don't be surprised if you don't hear that quickly). I agree with the others, I am not aware of a situation where they do not require them for the period prior to the PCA.

I got a call 5 minutes ago. I PASSED my medical . I got word just 7 days afterwards which is all good. At the moment it is valid for National Insurance Credits but Income Support will be notified within 48 hours and I will get a letter letting me know what will be paid and when but the woman said I won't need any backdated notes or another medical for 12 months.

That is such a relief. Thanks for the information everyone.
