pointing under slates

Could anyone tell me what exactly this does, i have a few bits that has dropped but cant afford new roof at min so I was going to repoint the bits that had dropped, a lady next door has told me you must use cement that doesnt contain lime is this correct, and someone else has said you can use silicone is that correct.

There's a good article here on identifying and removing broken slates. It discusses using silicone. They also have an article on how to fix the replacement slates which probably applies to putting fallen slates back on.
However, as this forum thread discusses, the working at height regulations may discourage you or a roofer from going up on the roof without proper protection.0 -
when we replace fascias and soffits on 60s style semi detached style housesthis being approx 25mm thick we generally fill bigger voids with expanding foam then cover with sand and cement with waterproofing agent in .the foam helps to hold the roof edge tiles togetherif you think peoples advice is helpfull please take the time to clicking the thank you button it gives great satisfaction0
