Mortgage query

Hi,
My Wife of 8 years and i have split and she agreed I continue to live in our joint owned home.
I'm pretty sure I can continue to pay the mortgage on my own but realise that my soon to be ex wife may one day request that we release the equity by selling or for me to buy her out.
I understand that it is common to re mortgage the house plus the buy out percentage and go from there (not possible right now)
My question is if I keep paying the mortgage for x amount of years surely this will count against what would be owed to my ex, how do I get this considered
Many Thanks
Tony

I think you might be better off getting a valuation of the house now and get a redemption figure off your mortgage company.
That way once you start talking £££s you will have something concrete to base the discusion on.2014 Target;
