moving a jasmine shrub
Hi, I'm a new and inexperienced gardener and I wonder if anyone can help me...
we have a lovely (and well-established) jasmine growing over a lean-to at the back of our house. On Monday the builders are coming to knock the lean-to down and build an extension. I don't want to lose the jasmine but it can't stay where it is.
Would you take cuttings or do you think it's possible to move the entire plant? (it's about 8 foot tall). If I tried to move it would I just replant immediately somewhere else? I'd be really grateful for any advice or ideas!
Cheers

Last spring I had to temporarily move my winter jasmine. I dug a huge root ball around it and put it in a huge pot. Replanted it 2 weeks later and it was fine. Though it was only 2 foot tall.0

It really is not going to be happy, best to cut it back but not into hard wood, and dig it out with as biggest root ball as possible, and put it in a paddling pool of water, replant as soon as possible making sure the hole is filled to the brim with water first, allow to drain and replant water every day for a month. My Mind wanders, if found please return.0

You dont say if it's winter Jasmine (jasminum nudifloruim) or common jasmine (jasminum officinale) but both are pretty bomb-proof. Regardless, I would cut it back first, so that the roots don't have too much to do till it acclimatises in its new location.
You may find that there are other rooted bits outwith the main root ball. My jasmine is always rooting where it shouldn't.
Edit: .....And what Jnelhams said while I was typing this, except I don't think it will sulk for long.0 -
Thanks so much for your replies, I really wasn't sure about digging it out but sounds like it's worth a try (it's a common jasmine - smells lovely at the moment and I don't want to lose it!).
I'll let you know how I get on,
Thanks again - this board is great!0
