Leaving luggage unlocked.

this is a quote from a website that sells these locks :-
Accepted and recognized by the American TSA (Transportation and Security Administration). These padlocks allows TSA personnel to check your luggage without damaging the lock. In the current climate of increase terrorist alerts, a TSA lock is essential for securing your luggage if travelling to the USA.
so i would say thay are only good for american customs to get into, but as any locks they will keep your case locked flying into any european country, HTH Dave
This is just laughable - a site selling these useless items saying "a TSA lock is essential for securing your luggage" and people believe it !
Do the same people think that a puny little lock that can be opened by half the airport staff in the USA with a key will pose much of a problem to the other half with a screwdriver and/or a pair of pliers ?
Apart from which, who, other than the Beckhams, is stupid enough to put items of value in their hold baggage ?0

            let me think...
 12 transatlantic trips since 2001..
i've never locked my case once
i've never had anything taken from it..
sods law it'll happen next time, but the only thing that is in my case is clothes, and toiletries... and if they want that, they can have it..
i laugh at people who put important things in their case, and then it goes missing!0

Which I assume the Americans will remove and throw away if they want to search your case.
Yes they will, but at least your case will still close afterwards, which it won't if they break the clasp off to open it.
I've never had anything stolen from luggage either, but I don't take anything worth nicking.
OTOH I have gone on hols with girls who are a lot more girlie than me, and with the amount of stuff they seem to need to cart round with them it would be impossible for them to take everything of value in their hand luggage. Make up and perfume alone can top a hundred quid. A few pairs of designer shoes and matching handbags, £1k easily. Then GHDs, hair dryers, and god knows what else. If I was carrying all that stuff I'd want my case locked as well.
When my niece went on a school trip recently a lot of the girls had bought similar pink trolley type cases. Every single one was broken into and various toiletries and hair straightners were stolen. The airline and airport weren't interested at all. My niece who had been moaning before she went that she had had to take her Mum's boring black suitcase, was one of the few who's case wasn't touched. So I'd always stick to boring looking cases as well. Anything to stop your luggage standing out as potentially containing valuables.
It's ridiculous that it is allowed to go on unchecked though. On the one hand we are made to jump through all sorts of hoops in the name of 'security' at airports. On the other airport staff are free to rifle through luggage and presumably just walk off site with anything they manage to steal. It doesn't give me much confidence in their security arrangements. When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.0

            Please look at
I dont know if you can post a link, so sorry if it has to be removed, but suitcases are NOT safe with any of the locks or cable ties
If the link has to be removed then do a search on suitcase zip tamper and watch.

I've just said this on another thread before anyone accuses me of repeating myself - this is for the benefit of those who missed that thread My lock got ripped off my case in LA, although nothing was stolen. I was just happy that no one wanted my lovely new dresses and tobacco My lock got ripped off my case in LA, although nothing was stolen. I was just happy that no one wanted my lovely new dresses and tobacco
Going off thread now - I usually carry a ruck sack with many zips as my hand luggage, after they've checked 2 or 3 zips and found my tampax ... they usually give up and look no further - not that I have anything to hide
Would anyone actually admit to the insurance company that they didn't lock their case?0
