    Thanks m13 and bespoke. I feel much more positive about everything now that I know that there are more options than we realised. Think we need to get in touch with some more enthusiastic builders who will think a bit more laterally!

    Me again! Have just checked the building regs which specifies 60mm celotex to the walls. I know this is a type of insulation, does this make a difference to the figures you have quoted?

    celeotex are a manufacturer of rigid foam insulation (like kingspan)

    a guide to most of the different makes of insulation available and pack sizes etc is available here

    note: rigid foam insulation is more expensive than mineral wool
