B&Q Paint Problems

Yeah we tried a Dulux and Crown tested in large areas and had no problem what so ever. And there was no problem at all with the existing matt emulsion that was on the walls, except for the nasty colour!0

Just googling to see if anyone else had any problems and it appears that this is more of a common problem than I realised - we have just painted our spare room with B&Q colours Magnolia - 2 coats - cracked when dried in some areas - never had the problem with Dulux in other rooms before and previously in same room that I did about 8 years ago. Also took more paint than Dulux to cover this room (hence costing more as had to buy more paint). I certianly won't be using B&Q 'branded' paint ever again.Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0

I have had similar problems with Dulux, Wickes and Homebase brands. All used on pre-emulsioned lining paper. In general I have found Dulux to be more consistent although their white gloss yellows very quickly.0

I had a load of paint come of the walls like wall paper in sheets. Apparently when the decorators came in before we moved in they didnt put a !!!! coat in the new plaster and thats what caused it. I just used B&Q paint (after a !!!! coat) and touch wood, so far its been fine. One day some company will do what they say they will do and charge a fair charge.:T
Not doing the opposite of that which they promise and charge you a fortune for the privileged.
Or maybe not:mad:0 -
I'm having a great battle with B&Q at present. Moved into our new home about 10months ago and it needed decorating from top to bottom.
Completed the kitchen and purchased Dulux emulsion, it went on well and looks great. We painted the dining room, lounge and hall, stairs and landing with B&Q Colours emulsion. Applied two coats on separate days, first noticed it at the bottom of the stairs, after a second coat drys, the paint cracks like a river in a drought, a mud cracking effect. Now this only appears to have happened where the walls take direct sunlight. At first I thought it must have been something ive done, or applied too thickly etc..
B&Q instantly agreed to refund the cost of the paint, not good enough as far as we were concerned. It had taken us weeks of hard work. I escalated the complaint to head office, they sent the paint away to Ostendorf who make the paint in Germany. It was tested and apparently met all standards.
I had a visit from a paint expert from our local B&Q store, he had been painting for 40 years and had never seen this problem as bad as this before. B&Q are still not budging and dont seem to want to help other than offer a refund. I have got two quotes from independant decorators to re-paint the walls after applying a base coat and I want B&Q to pay for the labour costs. Am I within my rights? I am also thinking of going to a consumer tv program as apparently 'this is not uncommon with B&Q paint'. Incidently we painted the downstairs cloakroom with B&Q emulsion and that seems fine.
One things for sure, nobody I know will never buy B&Q paint again!
I also had a problem with B&Q emulsion paint, I painted my kitchen with two different colours all went on fine looked really nice until about a month later when the paint started to crackle in certain areas, thinking this must be something under the paint I rubbed down the crackled parts and repainted, and guess what the paint then again started to crackle some months later, and then all the other areas also started to crackle and now the paint is peeling off !!!! I contacted B&Q and they sent me some pots and asked for samples of the paint and the peeling flakes and they would test it, 6 + months later I have heard nothing I have again phoned them and my complaint doesn’t exist !!
It is clear to me B&Q do not want to pay for the cleanup bill Rubbing down and repainting
I no longer have the paint and must now take the hit!!
I will never use B&Qs own products again they are junk!! As far as paint is concerned I will stick to well known brands they are more expensive but much much better and much cheaper in the long term.
B&Q I must say VERY POOR SERVICE INDEED.

Not being a paint expert I hasten to say. But could you phrase it to B&Q something along the lines of ,.. if you use their recommended painter and decorator to paint two walls where you have the issue (currently painted in B&Q paint) with fresh paint one Dulux and one B&Q and if you have the same issue with B&Q paint but not the Dulux will they then agree to bear the cost of redecorating?0

We have been using this paint onto textured wallpaper for many years. The paint cracked and I was able to insert a knife into the crack and under the paint where I was able to peel it off in large pieces. I assumed it to be grease on the surface but now new paint onto new paper has started to peel 6 months after application - only small spots at the moment but not looking promising. I think we will need to change the choice of paint.0

I have also just had a problem with B&Q's paint, which is made by Ostendorf in Germany. We moved into our new bungalow last May and completely refurbished it and the last job was the paintwork. When I did all the major paintwork I used their own White Gloss paint - this was around August.
I was watching a Dominic Littlewood program the other day when a piece came up about a consumer who had complained to Dulux when the Dulux White paint they had used went Yellow. Dulux finally admitted that it would do if it was NOT subject to UV or Sunlight but, at that time, there were no disclaimers printed on the cans to this effect. Out of curiosity I checked our White paintwork and found exactly the same thing happening - all the White painted areas in the house that didn't get any sunlight on them were going Yellow and this was with B&Q paint and not Dulux and there was no disclaimer on the B&Q can either!
I have complained to B&Q and they have said that Ostendorf have had problems with some of their paints and they are now looking into this particular problem. We'll wait to see what they come up with!!0 -
The downstairs bedroom in my new house was painted with b&q premium/all surfaces emulsion by the previous tenants, off white on two walls and dark grey on the others. The off white has chipped a little but is otherwise ok, the grey on the other hand was like plastic and peeled off in large sheets aside from some stubborn areas in the corners. Its a newbuild and the plasterboard is of a better quality than most. On the other hand upstairs I had one room painted in the normal B and Q coloured Matt emulsion and that was great but the room I had painted in dulux so called 'endurance' I have never seen such a weak, bad quality paint! It marks and bits chip off so easily. It also claims to be washable but is most definitely not. Colossal waste of money that I regret now. I'm off to buy the wickes trade matt emulsion as that has been consistently good over the years-really limited bland pastel and white/magnolia range to choose from though. Xx0
