Any advice would be gratefull im in this mess at the mo, just had to give my job up 4 weeks ago working nights as i no longer have childcare for my two kids(4 and 2) and my husband rarely visits his kids and to be honest is nearly 2 months away from paying me no maintenance... I have a boyfriend at the moment who has offered to help in the short term as there is no reason why i should not be able to find work during the day in the next few months(min pay though) but i would rather go as far as possible without his help as its still early days(4 months) and i dont believe either one of us should be in the position at such an early stage to owe money to the other...

Congratulations on taking your first step.
I'm a newbie myself so I'm still learning.
I know you said your council tax is high due to arrears but are you claiming single person discount?
Little things help a lot, how about sorting out all your kids old toys and clothes and selling on ebay or similar.
There are lots of people here who can give much better advice than me as I'm still learning myself. You will receive loads or advice and support on this site - It's the best!

Are you on a water metre? It might be worth having a chat with your water company about that as even with two children you could save a bit.
Your mobile bill is very high-PAYG would save you a lot. Also sign up to Quidco, survey sites to start saving bits and bobs for Christmas.0 -
- Mobile - you should be able to knock at least £30 off this.
- Council Tax - single person discount?
- Internet - do you pay for this?
- Are you definitely claiming for everything you are entitled to benefit-wise?
- Can you put a bit of pressure on your (ex?) OH for at least a bit of maintenance?
- You could look at Quidco/pigsback/surveys/mystery shopping etc for short term money, also think about eBaying anything you don't use (CD's/DVD's etc)
Keep it up lady... you aren't in a bad a position as you think.Inspiration is all you need to become debt free!0 -
Are you on income support? You should get all your council tax paid by CT benefit, make sure you apply. If you have already applied and £135 is the montlhy amount for arrears then get on to them asap and offer much much less. I have CT arrears and currently pay [strike]£20 pm (they agreed on £12.50 but I have chosen to overpay it).[/strike] EDIT: Sorry, will blame my hayfever and sinusitus (with lack of sleep) for my error
I am supposed to pay £12.50 a WEEK but choose to pay £20 a WEEK doh! Just re read it and thought blimey thats not much?! Sorry

Hi im afraid im not a newbie as me and my hubby had debts but luckily he's taken them on its about the only thing he does do... but now im in this boat all alone and dont want to go back there.
My council Tax is £82 approx a month as a single person for the rest of this year but at the moment i have a final demand for £620ish from last may to this april. My ex also owed them £359 as well on top of this but ive passed on his details and that is his debt. Im hoping ill have a job soon and would rather try and overpay i dont want to be tied into this house with debts in 12 months time.
The ebay thing im already on to lol, had to do it for past 4 weeks just to give us some cash, running out of things to sell...Saving needed to emigrate to Oz*September 2015*

Yes i never thought of the water meter, i never really recieved much correspondance from my water company so never really knew much about it bu ti do know i have a statement somewhere so may give them a ring.
Mobile bil is based at this figure as i currently owe £192 pus i have a £35 contract till October and i am cancelling it this week so i will be offering them £50 a month to pay them back what i owe and the money ill owe up till october. I will however use pay as you go in the meantime and hopefully bills wont be as high. I got silly high bills when my ex left me and i was lonely texting my friends and then when me and my boyfriend(old friend) got talking through texts. But now it shouldnt be as bad we are together all weekend and he visits in an evening.Saving needed to emigrate to Oz*September 2015*

Mobile i owe them and am cancelling my contract so need to offer them £50 a month.
Internet im with talk talk landline its classed as free internet.
My ex is a self obsessed selfish waste of space who i cant understand how i married. He doesn not seem at all bothered that its his kids home he is affecting.

I am not on income support as i have only been out of work 4 weeks and it was very unexpected. I quit the job too as i couldnt get childcare in an evening so i presume i wont get income support. I applied online today for jobseekers allowance and they said they'd phone me in next 2 days (fongers crossed).
lol. I will be over paying by £50 a month so its not too bad i presume on the face of it. Means my debt will be paid back to them this financial year. Of course it would help loads if i had a job!!!Saving needed to emigrate to Oz*September 2015*
