sainsbury vouchers in asda

I was in asda on sunday and spent £50. I had a sainsbury voucher for £5 off for a £50 spent which i gave the cashier first then an asda voucher for £10 off a £30 spent. she said I couldn't use them both as I would bring the total spend below that required. I disputed this so she rang up someone who said they didn't accept sainsburys vouchers at all now. I then went to customer service who confirmed they don't accept vouchers from any other store, whats happening?

Went to my local Asda (Darlington) on Saturday afternoon and they had a big notice by the door saying how they accepted vouchers from other supermarkets. They'd better make their minds up!
  • Just used a £5 off £20 on sainsburys clothing in Asda today on shopping with no problem. I had only spent about 18 on clothes and the voucher ran out on the 30th Sept. Talked to the SA to distract her and spent £17 instead of £22. This was in former safeway in Coventry

the official policy as confirmed in writing be Customer Service is as follows. However, getting the store to accept it is not always possible:

"Yes you can use a nestle etc voucher without buying that product as long as ASDA stock the voucher product.
For example, if the voucher is for dark chocolate and ASDA don't sell dark chocolate, then the voucher will not be accepted. Yes we do accept Tesco, Morrison's, Sainsbury product vouchers, the only thing we do not accept is store specific Gift Vouchers.

Coupons produced by suppliers/manufacturers (the sort of coupon you find on the back of packets, in magazines, amongst junk mail at home, for example) are acceptable at the checkout provided the item referred to on the coupon is stocked by ASDA. The customer does not have to purchase the specific item referred to in order to redeem the coupon.
ASDA coupons (which bear ASDA's name and can often be found in the ASDA Magazine) can only be redeemed if the customer has actually purchased the product referred to.
Customers should be politely encouraged to tender any coupons at the START of the transaction, as this makes it much easier to check the coupons against the shopping.
Remember also to check expiry dates on all coupons - out of date coupons will not be accepted by our bulk handlers.

    Bulk Coupon Redemption

Occasionally a customer may try to redeem large quantities of coupons in one transaction. There is no set limit on how many coupons may be accepted.
Please remember that customers will occasionally want to redeem manufacturers' gift vouchers (which they may have been sent as a result of corresponding directly with the manufacturer). These may be worth £1, £2, £5 or even more. In these circumstances the customer should redeem the coupon against that manufacturer's products, and should be encouraged to purchase products in excess of the voucher value. However, if the customer is unable or unwilling to spend all the voucher value, then change should be given The above does not include Kiosk

If you require any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me."

I think its a new ruling that came in over the last 7 days

i too had my sainsburys vouchers declined this week, and all the staff i asked, said it was their new policy

they will still take up to 10% of product vouchers, just not rival companies vouchers
