Lloyds TSB Airmiles Duo - late payment fee?

Can someone help me.
I applied for these when it was recommended in order to get !,000 free AIrmiles.
I made an initial purchase of about £12, paid promptly when I got the statement in March.
I then spent another £25 in April and today I got a statement where I have been charged £12 + interest because I have missed payment last month.
I know for a fact that I normally pay my occasinally used credit cards on the internet when I receive the statements, for the others I have direct debit.
I honestly cannot remember if I ever paid this one or not. If not it would be because I did not receive the statement.
I spoke to them hoping they would just remove the late payment fee but they didn't budge. I believe that £12 for a £25 poutstanding balance is a robbery. They say they would be willing to refund me £6, but I believe I shouldn't be charged at all, I only owe a pitiful amount and it wa an honest mistake, it isn't like I didn't want to pay or cound't. I told them I would cancel the cards after this as I am sure they could remove the late payment fee as a goodwill gesture since it is only the second time I used the card and I haven't go a history of late payments with them.
Where do I stand with this?
Also I never got the £1,000 airmiles, who di I need to ask to, Airmiles or Lloyds TSB?
Thanks v much
Claudia

Thanks for this - I thought the claim was only for charges over £12 as the£12 is now legitimate. Did I read the "CC claiming back charges" instructions wrong?
So should I pay the £6 charge, clear the debt and then put in a claim to get £6 back? I know it isn't that much after all, but it's the principle I am fighting against.
I must say it's happened to me quite a few times to forget to pay my NW VISA card because of undelivered statements over the years, and they kept charging me £20 late payment but promptly removed it when I rang and explained I never received the statement. NatWest staff also always treated me with respect and I felt valued as a customer.
Lloyds have a call centre based in India, with bad connections and the customer service staff were exceptionally rude. The first one said she was going to put me on hold but instead she cut me off, the second one almost shouted angrily at me refusing to listen or understand, insisting I just had to pay and he put a stop to the CC there and then and the third one treated me as if I was a criminal and a beggar for not paying £25.
I am going to ring them again and demand a statement as I have checked all my folders and now it is clear that I NEVER received my statement so that's why I didn't pay in time.
And I'll demand my 1000 AM
Can someone just let me know if it is within my rights to demand the £6 back? Cheers!!0 -
I have a Lloyds TSB duo card and have always paid off the balance in full until last month when I accidentally paid £100 less than the balance due to a misunderstanding. I got charged interest on the full balance - interest on money I did not owe. I complained and as it was a misunderstanding on my part they reduced the interest by half. It pays to complain, even though I think they should not have charged me at all, at least they did give a little when I told them I was going to cut up the card!0

You can request and try to get the charges rescinded or reduced as a 'gesture of goodwill'.
The charge of £12 has been agreed by the Office of Fair Trading to be a fair amount to charge. Previously the charges of £30-40 were deemed not to be fair and could be reclaimed.
You have ABSOLUTELY NO right to demand the £12 back, in fact demanding a refund from the c/s agent is very likely to get you nothing !
It's not robbery, they are not crooks, they are not cowboys, they are a regulated business. Would any account holders bother to pay on time at all if there wasn't a late payment fee to disuade them from doing that ?
As for the airmiles I believe there are other threads here relating to some problems encountered.0
