NTL/Online bills - a warning.....

I just thought I would let you all know what happened to me with NTL.
I cancelled my account Internet and Home Phone with them and was told to send the letter giving a months notice which I did and cancelled the Direct Debit after I made sure the last month was paid.
1 YEAR later I started getting endless letters (and extra costs) from a debt collection agency telling me to pay or they would take me to court/ etc... on behalf of NTL. I called thema and asked wjhat it was all about and they told me I still owed a month to NTL. I told them no way and that I had cancelled it. I was told to call NTL as they had no other details and had just been asked to claim the money for them. Of course, no account you can't speak to NTL. I tried online for a copy of the bill - it was an online bill and not available anymore. They told me everytime I called to try and sort it out to 'just pay it becuase I was going to have to anyway'.
I was livid - probably spent more in calls to get it sorted out but no way was I going to pay it when I did not owe the money. It took 6 months and I eventually got it sorted out by digging out everything I could find - but make sure, if you have online billing that you keep copies of all bills and any cancelling letters and back up bank statements with the payment just in case. I wonder how many other people just 'paid' there and then to save the hassle. These big companies really disgust  me with their demands!!

Demand they take you to court and ignore everything they throw at you - it may well be the easiest way.0
