does it matter where anyone else has invested it? How do you know they got it right? How do you know if the risk they have or haven't taken is the same you would do?
There is a CTF thread stickied at the top of the forum. Take a read of that for more info. You also need to decide where you want to invest it or save it depending on your risk profile. Remember risk is also balanced over time. 18 months in the stockmarket is considerably higher risk than 18 years. Indeed, in the scheme of things, 18 years on a savings account stands more risk of not maintaining real value compared with the stockmarket. (stockmarket is only one example of risk, there are lower and higher risk investment areas).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

As mentioned need to think of your attitude to risk, and if you wish to save or invest. The down side for most clients is that it is the childs money at 18. No debate.
From a persoanl point of view I looked at Childrens mutual, F & C and the share centre. I plumped for the sharecentre as I like to do my own investment within it. I also top it up in moderation as I do not like the 18 issue, if I had had some choice over age I would have put in the maximum.
Good luck.Views expressd are just that, views and opinion, they are not financial advice, as that requires much detail and work and everyone is different. Advice should be taken, in my opinion, from a professional financial advisor. PS. Good luck.0
