Ford Focus TDCI LX, Zetec or Sprt?

I am thinking of getting a Ford Foucs TDCI.

I have test drove the LX, 2003 model the garage is looking for £8200 for a model with 28K on the clock a little high for my liking.

I know the TCDI Sport is the better model of the three, but what is the difference between a TDCI LX and TDCI Zetec??

We're a good lot so if you want to read a few of the forums, you'll get an idea of the best model, problems, recalls, fuel economy.

(The Zetec has alloys and a few other bits as standard such as sports seats and whitish dials, the LX is more basic with hubcaps and less likelyhood of extras on a used car. I have a 1.6 petrol Zetec and it's the BEST!)

Origionally the LX was the base and the zetec had a more sporty appearance - same engine etc though.
Better seats alloys and more extras available.

1.6 zetec is a nice car - a nice balance looks good, goes well but cheap to run and insure

we had a 2003 LX which had alloys and the 6006 CD changer fitted etc. I'd always thought the alloys at least were standard? got a bit bargain in that case thanks to dealer not realising it was a bit of an upgraded LX

I had an 03 LX 1.6 and i came with standard alloys and a/c cd player abs. the differance between it and the zetec was the zetec had front fog lights, different alloys and sports seat, but no a/c as standard.

i went for the lx as wanted a/c..... they cost they same prise. i think the above poster was meaning the cl as lower spec.

i would go for either depending on what you want, the 1.6 was a good car but if your doing high miles go for the desiel.

though i was doing about 35k a year in mine and the fuel eccomeny was okay.

The TDCI LX and TDCI Zetec seem to have the same spec on the 2003 cars. Both have alloys, CD and air con, what the difference on them there must be one otherwise there would be no need for 2 models??

a/c was an extra on the 03 model zetec and standard on the LX, the differance is the seats/fog lights and suspession settings i believe. different alloys as well. the zetec is billed as the sportier version, but they are pretty much the same car

No I didn't mean the Cl. The CL was the basic spec, the LX next, then the Zetec, then the Ghia - they must have changed them in recent years, as when i sold Focus' for Ford in 2000 the LX's didn't have a/c or alloys.

My Zetec (used) came with a climate pack which includes A/C, heated front screen and heated wing mirrors. Very useful!
