MOT question - working windows
Comments
-
I can't see anything in the manual about windows http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual/contents.htm
I would suspect it's a convenience item rather than a safety issue? Could you 'phone a test station and ask them?
I can't remember ever having the windows operation checked at any MOT. The tester might only open the driver's window to operate the brake and/or emissions testing gear or for an assistant to hear instructions e.g. handbrake on, footbrake on etc. That can be achieved with the door open.0 -
I don't know the answer but common sense would suggest the one that you really would want working is the drivers door one. The rest are certainly excess to requirments.
My only question would be is there any need in this day and age to be able to make hand signals?
I do know that both my rear windows in the old Merc packed in years ago and it was never an MOT issue.0 -
Side Windows are not a testable item... you don't even have to have them on the car.... the only glass that is legally required to be tested is the front screen.... my ford cortina passed two MOTs with inoperable front windows....0

BUT only if its fitted, there is no law that says you need one.
And no a stuck side window wont cause a fail on the test.'Beware of little expenses. A small leak will sink a great ship'. -Benjamin Franklin.0 -
I may be wrong but I've got a feeling that if you have a fold down windscreen (like on my old Land Rover) it doesn't need to be tested either. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
If it is the drivers widow it will be a bit of a !!!!!! to test the brakes as they usually put the arm out the window to operate the rollers remote control. Can't see they could fail it tho,;)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

can't really comment on landies, cos mine had a fixed screen.. but my dad had a morris with a lift up screen, and that did have to be tested....0 -
my work mates rear doors on his newish skoda decided to both lock closed. This passed an mot, so im sure windows opening is not part of the mot0

Just checked and your right, I was getting confused , it's wipers and washers that aren't included in the test if you have an opening screen.
To the OP you could so some searching on this site to try and find the answer.
I can't see anything about side windows BTW.It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
