Baby Planning

Me and my husband are thinking about having a baby - my sister gets married in August and we have been saying for past year that we will plan after the wedding.
August is only TWO months away - its come round so quick, but i still have my heart set on a baby!!
I dont know what to expect, i think i would probably get pregnant quite quickly, so i shouldnt have a problem there, but im worried about the sickness and the pains.
The company i work for are very good with their maternity leave so i would probably have a year off work, but then after that...it would be all the nursery and then school.
We have worked it out that we could cope with the costs, and while im pregnant we plan on saving as much as we can so we are not stuck while im not working. But i am still unsure about the benifits i would get?? can anyone help with that?(me and my husband are both working...not on a huge amount of money - i would say between us we get about £30.000)
By what i have said above it seems that i may not be ready, and i think im right in saying that, but the way i see it is, if im not ready now...when will i be? And my husband keeps telling me that too, but i would just love to have a baby who i could provide for and i just cant wait to be a mother!

Hi Puppychick
Re the financial aspect I would advise you to check www.entitled to so you can see what you would qualify for
It sounds to be as though you are ready to be a mum but re what to expect while pregnant with the sickness etc... you won't be able to tell until it happens! You can swot up on all the pregnancy info you can I guess!
You don't say your age but I'm guessing you must be young to think you would get pregnant quickly but that said bear in mind many don't so you can't really bank on this.
If the time feels right for you I would advise to swot up as much as you can on pregnancy and baby info and then it's just a case of trying to concieve and coping with the pregnancy as best you can - all pregnancies are different so tricky to plan here!
There are boards on MSE for those trying to concieve and a pregnancy one - have you checked those out? x0 -
helloo
Thank you so much for the info/advice. I am new to the forum so still trying to navigate my way around it without getting lost!
Yes i am still very young, but have been married for 2 years and i think now may be the right time - just one baby is enough for now.
I will check out the link you posted and let you know what i think.

Thanks againHopefully just the one but you also have to think of the possibility of twins!
Re your age I was more thinking of your chances of concieving quickly as this is higher if you are in the 20-25 age bracket I believe?! - it may even be younger than this but I know there are many on the TTC board who fall in the 'ideal age bracket'? who don't concieve as quickly as they would like.
Personally I was 28 when I first fell pregnant and then 30 with the next one and I concieved first cycle with both but the actual pregnancies themselves were completely different!
Good luck0 -
You know your really ready-when the thought of morning sickness etc doesnt even put you off!
If you've got even the slightest doubt-id re think and wait. Its obvious (and not making out your stupid here) but having a baby is a hugggggeee responsibility, and yes pregnancy isnt always easy (ive been finding that out!).It will change your life forever.
As for getting pregnant quick-yes it may happen but not everyone is as lucky. Try looking through the TTC thread etc for ideas, and pregnancies best kept secrets thread is great!
Good luck, and take care!

Optimism is always good, but remember it doesn't always work the way we think it will, some of the people on the TTC board have been trying months/years, even in the 'ideal age bracket'.
Also, if you're thinking of trying in August, then are you already taking folic acid? As it's recommended that you start 3 months before trying. If not, get taking it asap.0 -
Thanks for the advice, i will look into it and start taking
yes i know i am being optimistic...but i will be happy with whatever happens.
If it takes a while for me to get pregnant, then thats just the way it is, everything happens for a reason and i will just have to wait and see what happens.
Oh and yes i just had a look on the ttc board! Looks like i will be reading it daily for tips!!!Total Debt : £6000 - Pad off :£1500 - Yet to pay : £4500
