UK Visa advice

Options
My husband has come to the uk on a spouce visa, his 2 years will be up in August, and we will then have to send of his application form along with all the information for his ILR (also known as settlement in the UK). We have to send the application form off no earlier than 28 days from the date he came to the UK 2 years ago.

Does anyone know how long it will take for them to process the forms?
Also what will happen next?

I know that we will have to wait a couple of years for him to get a british passport!
I would like to plan a holiday but as he has a non-uk passport we would have to go to London to apply for his visa's for other country's.
And i cant plan a holiday until we get something back from his application form as we have to send his passport along with mine too!

A bit radical, but why not try ringing the place where you sent the apllication?
I dont understand why people ask these type of questions when a simple call to the office concerned will give you the correct advice rather than second hand (and normally incorrect) gossip from us lot.

Like you my husband needs to apply for leave to remain in August but he is on a working permit. I've been told the average waiting time is 6 weeks to 3 months by his companys accountant who also specialises in immigration.

Because you can only apply no earlier than 28 days from the date he came in to the UK, there is a worry factor that by that time his visa will expire which means he will be illegal unless you also apply for an extension to his visa. Which also means more fees involved. Best thing to do is to apply in person or get someone who has authority to apply in person for you ie a solicitor who specialises in immigration. The fee for applying in person is £950 and you should know the outcome on that date. Make sure you have all the appropiate documents you need and make sure they are originals and not photocopies.

    Good luck!
