just continue using avg as IE antivirus is a virus

    removal instructions are here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080504234544AAyH1gv
  • Ana,

Internet Explorer is a vulnerable browser. Lots of attacks and viruses are distributed to this.

Google "Firefox". Download and install that. It is a safe, quick, swanky browser which will replace IE and cause you MUCH less hassle :)

Conor - I haven't visited the website you suggest so I can't comment on which browser is the safest to use. But I certainly find using Firefox a much more pleasurable and hassle free way of accessing the net. Touch wood, but I don't seem to have had any problems with security on either, though only use IE on rare occasions.

Ana - I've just downloaded the new version of AVG today version 8.0.1 You can either go through https://www.grisoft.com or get the same from http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html?cdlPid=10834624 if the link doesn't work then the web address is https://www.download.com

I've used AVG for years and wouldn't use anything else.

    Hope this helps.

WHAT A LOAD OF UTTER RUBBISH.

Good to see you getting in the MSE friendly way.

Now onto facts. As you may or may not know, Internet explorer will release a fix and disclose this as fixing a vulnerability. In all statistics this would then add "1" vulnerability onto IE. However in reality the patch fixes a lot of things which goes completely un-noticed.

Thus most comparison charts which show Internet Explorer having about 4 or 5 less vulnerabilities is wrong. Mozilla defines every individual event separately while IE groups.

    Did you know that Conor?

Then there's ActiveX which is a whole new kettle of fish. That won't be included in IE vulnerabilities as its an ActiveX vulnerability, which Mozilla doesn't have the problem with...

And finally what part of my post is "utter rubbish". Firefox IS faster, it WILL cause users less hassle, and internet explorer IS vulnerable to a lot of attacks, yet you have the decency to blast my post and not even disagree!

Its people like you that DISGRACE mse these days. Now if you're not going to give advice get lost and don't hijack the OPs thread. :)

    Thanks =)

Oh and finally, every article showing IE as safer originates from Jeff Jones, Security Strategy Director at Microsoft's Trustworthy Computing Group.

It was his figures that suggested fewer exploits and faster fixes in IE which are the ones which "group" vulnerabilities into one.

    Get it right.
