Viewing popular threads in Firefox

I thought I'd post this as I've just tried in Firefox 3 and it's still an issue for me.
When I try to view a topic with a significant number of replies, for example the 3 retentions in the mobile board which has something like 900 replies, I get a blank page in firefox. It doesn't even seem to try to load it. If I copy and paste the URL into IE7, it loads no problem.
I'm no fan of IE7 but this is getting to be a tad annoying. Anyone else experienced that sort of problem with Firefox and found a solution?

Never been a problem for me, although I am not sure which thread you mean in particular...

    Can you provide the link?

What display mode are you using?

I've noticed that Firefox sometimes has a problem with the "threaded" or "hybrid" modes for very long threads.

One of the main culprits was the 3 retention thread on http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=4000163&page=37

However, following the advice below I switched from hybrid to linear mode and it worked, then back to hybrid and it's still working. Bit strange but I'm now a happy camper.

    Thanks for the help

    That is odd.

That is the thread I figured you meant, and I can't get it to work in any mode apart from "linear".

EDIT: Correction: Works in all modes apart from "threaded".

Oddly I'm getting the same in the new Opera and IE7 as well. They are coming up with server errors instead of the blank page.

I've just checked the thread and its okay for me which isn't always the case as some long threads can get corrupted but I'm not using Firefox 3 as yet so I'll keep an eye on it for you when I do download 3.

In FF3 that thread displays just fine in "linear" or "hybrid" mode, but just shows a blank page in "threaded" mode.

In Opera 9.5 it again displays just fine in "linear" mode or "hybrid" mode, but just shows the error below in "threaded" mode.

Same in IE7 as well. Fine now in "linear" or "hybrid" mode, but trying "threaded" mode produces.

Just checked it again now I'm using Firefox 3 and its okay using linear mode, which I always use but blank pages for me using hybrid and threaded mode.

Then I went to another thread while still in threaded mode and wondered what on earth was wrong

I know the feeling! I can't get the hang of following a thread unless it is in the basic linear mode. :o

Just as well that "linear" seems to work fine on everything. :)

Does it work if you switch to threaded mode as below?
