Realistic time scales for Moving

Options
This is the situation, we accepted an offer on our property approx 3 and a half months ago, had our offer on our next property accepted 6 weeks ago.

No sign of a moving date yet, not a problem for us, but our buyers are FTB itching to get in.

This whole procees could take 6 months or longer as the vendor we are buying from has no details of the chain above him yet.

Anyone got any experience of long chains and timescales?

Oh Dear, 3 and a half months and it sounds like you don't even have a complete chain?

Your solicitor needs a kick up the proverbial I think. They should, at the very least be able to communicate exactly what is happening further up the chain, or where it stops and why. I think you need to find out as quickly as you can to keep your buyer. It may also be worth having a scout around for new properties?

Every sale I've been involved in has taken 4 months or less from offer to completion, apart from our first buy & sell which took 6 months and involved us being gazumped twice, no small part played by the world's worst solicitor - ours at the time.

It took 4 months with this house and that was with telling the solicitors to move sharpish and with only 2 people in a chain. My neighbours one took a year. No theres no telling really.

  • I think you have to set some deadlines. If you don't want to lose your sale then you will have to go back to your vendor and set a deadline... or start re-marketing your property.

With chains, until you get to exchange, you need to continue to market your property.
