You should be covered for this, all decent policies cover impact damage.
The only thing to be aware is that the insurer will likely ask for details of the car insurer as they would look into recovering their costs from the insurers of the car.
So my family member, who lives in the house, will lose their no claims bonus on the car as well as me having to claim on the house insurance?
If they recover the money in full from the car insurance then it should not be a claim against you eventually. However it would be a claim against you whilst it's being settled.
1) Have you checked the costs for repairs? If it's cheap then it might not be worth claiming.
2) Have you considered claiming of the car insurance direct? I hit my husbands car a few weeks ago on the driveway. We are going through my insurance direct and not using his car insurance at all. That way he doesn't make a claim on his insurance so only one claim is involved. Why increase the hassle and cost if you can go direct?
