Amsterdam Hotels

Anyone know of any nice cheapish hotels in Amsterdam, I'm looking for somewhere quite central.

We use Hotel De gerstekorrel Damstrat 22-24 - it's clean compact convenient - saves fortune in taxi fares.

It's a short straight walk, from Central Station, dead centre, but not too close to Red Light district.

It has main hotel above American Pizza House, with 2 other sets of rooms above other shops.

Get your room in the main building, then you only need walk downstairs for breakfast - the pizza place is your eating area! Sounds strange, but it works well - no pizza customers in the am.

& as the continental breakfast is inclusive, stock up on rolls, n stuff for your bay out & about!

Try & find one of the booking links on www one called The Channels Discount or similar. That way you get a 5-10% discount form normal room price.

If you want other tips on what to do/look out for in Amstredam, just ask!! There's a couple of other Moneysavers, who, like me really love the place!!

We stayed at the 5* NH Barbizion palace opposit the station. it was pure luxury and not much dearer than some 3*.

Check back, as this one keeps coming up. I can recommend the Van Onna. Online, on the canal, ask for a room at the very top overlooking the canal. They don't take credit cards though.

we stayed at the Hemp Hotel http://www.hemp-hotel.com go there with an open mind and you'll have a very relaxing stay and a lovely breakfast! It's more of a fair-trade bohemian type hotel than a pot den! Beware if you have mobility problems though as the stairs are very steep.
