I am with Bt, but using 18866/1899/18185 for calls via orchid dialler. I realized this afternoon that my line had a fault on it. I can make calls, but cannot receive calls.
I telephoned Orchid, who kindly said they would try to telephone my landline with dialler plugged in and then try to contact me with the dialler unplugged (ie going direct via bt line). Turns out neither proved positive. So, I contacted Orchid who advised me that their must be a fault with BT and to contact them.
BT faults have said they will charge me for an engineer visiting my home, if it's found that a fault lies with my equipment ect.. I won't be charged if there is a fault on BT line.. anyone heard this before????
I was thinking of unplugging my dialler before the engineer arrives

If you take out your dialer, and plug your phone straight into socket, can you call it.If not then the fault is no doubt on your (incoming part of your line) and nowt to do with dialler.
Yes Bt can charge you if it turns out your eqpt is faulty.Take out dialler when Engineer calls.Just leave phone plugged in.PF.0 -
yeah that's what I intend to do, not leaving dialler insight, don't want BT making an excuse out the dialler and there is nothing wrong with my cordless phone network either.
I will have to "call hone" on the dialler won't I if I have it un=pluged for too long?? Seems ok at the minute, as I'm still getting that cheery " 0p a minute" automated voice0 -
BT are only responsible for faults that occur anywhere from their exchange upto and including the main/master telephone socket in your house. All other wiring and extensions after this main/master socket are your own responsibility unless BT wired the whole house including extensions (which is rare they do this because they charge a fortune!).
- Plug a telephone you know to work (test it in a friends or something) so you know it's not a phone fault into the main/master telephone socket and unplug any extensions you may have and the Orchid dialler.
- Dial the BT Line Test on 17070* and choose option 1. If you don't get an option of number 1 then your number is withheld so replace handset and this time dial 1470 first (eg 1470 17070*).
- BT Line Test will then automatically ring you back.
* I'm not sure if we are meant to know about the BT Line Test facility so don't mention anything to them just in case!the_devil_made_me_do_it wrote:I will have to "call hone" on the dialler won't I if I have it un=pluged for too long??0 - Plug a telephone you know to work (test it in a friends or something) so you know it's not a phone fault into the main/master telephone socket and unplug any extensions you may have and the Orchid dialler.

it's not that I can't hear my telephone ringing, when anyone tries to call my landline, they get a dead line. I've tried telephoning my landline using another telephone, and yes, defo a dead line. I've tried this with dialler plugged in and without dialler plugged in, and it's the same deal each time, no tone at all :eek:0

Get on the BT website log a call, it does some automatic testing. That bit is free. And checks exchange to house. Both times it has been a BT fault on my line.

I can't even have call divert to my mobile.. BT are saying it's a fault at the exchange :rolleyes:0

On your BT mastersocket , unplug the phone and undo the 2 screws and take off the cover you will see a phone connector inside same as on the cover you have taken off (if its a modern socket) plug the phone into this and test for faults if there arnt any its your internal wiring, my parents had the same problem and it was a dodgy extention lead that was causing the problem.0

seems BT has solved the problem.. I'm receiving calls now, and they didn't need to send an engineer out :j
