Have you seen the tutorial here? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
yes i have read it. couldn't find the answer though. basically i don't understand what is being deleted (cleaned) in the advanced section, so should i leave them unticked or is it safe to tick them?0

I leave the cookies for the browsers unticked as it means that if it is ticked, you have to re-enter usernames and passwords on websites.0

I select "Options" then "Cookies". Here there is "Cookies to delete" & "Cookies to keep". I 'keep' sites such as MSE so that I don't have to re enter username & passwords.
Hope that helps!

I don't think the OP was asking what other people found important, I think he wanted a quick description of what each item will remove, if it is ticked, and what effect that is likely to have on him.
I will post a run-down when I have downloaded it, I don't have it on this laptop and I've been meaning to for ages as I have started to accumulate rubbish in my startup folder.I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right0 -
All the ones which are already ticked are safe to delete without losing anything - you might prefer to untick these:
Temporary Internet Files - only really needs doing every few months, although this is the biggest system hog when it hasn't been done for years! They make web pages load faster the second & subsequent times you visit them, so are useful if you visit the same sites regularly. However if you visit lots of sites like forums and blogs that are being updated constantly, delete your Temporary Internet Files more often.
Cookies - As people have mentioned, cookies save your status with a website like whether you have google safesearch turned on, or whether you are using ebay UK or US, or if you tick the "remember me" box on sites you sign in on. They are also used for advertising (so you get shown different ads) and so can accumulate - so delete them every few months to avoid the annoyance caused by having to redo all your settings.
Recently typed URLs - I prefer to untick this as I like being able to type just the first letter of a website in rather than the entire site name - but you should delete it every few months too to prevent backlog.
Run (In Start Menu) - untick if you regularly use the Run... command to run a few programs (Rather than hardly ever using it, or using it to run many different programs.)
Empty Recycle Bin - I always check what's in there first!
Things which are unticked by default:
Autocomplete form history - This is things like if you go onto a website and it asks you for an email address, you start typing and it comes up. Worth deleting every few months or so to clear out typos or old information, but if you use it a lot don't delete it once a week!
Start Menu Shortcuts - These are the programs which appear in your start menu, (Between Email & Internet links, and All Programs) that you use most often. Only delete if they seem to have got stuck on old programs you don't use any more, it's not worth it otherwise (but is safe!)
Desktop Shortcuts - Not sure what this one does, according to the site below, it is supposed to remove desktop shortcuts which no longer exist, but it doesn't do that so best to leave unticked.
I have just found this website which gives descriptions for all, so I won't bother typing out the "Advanced" options, but the site gives a better description than I can seeing as I'm not as familiar with them.

Anyone know how to stop CCleaner destroying the info which IE uses to personalise your favorites.
It gets me every time that one, and I'm back to the the 'big' list of favorites0 -

So the OP can't read this info themselves on the ccleaner website then. Talk about spoon feeding! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Get over yourself espresso, it was a simple question.
Thanks to all those willing to help. If you don't like the question, don't answer it. Or try doing something else with your time rather than cruising internet messageboards looking to put people down.
