Central Heating Quote

Hi,

I was wondering if I could ask for your advice on a quite we have received for the installation of a replacement central heating boiler. Current boiler has pretty much reached the end of its lifespan, and is currently located in the kitchen downstairs. We would like a combi boiler, which has been made more appealing by the fact that the hot and cold water tanks in the property have also just about had it! So, we have had a quote for the following work from a CORGI registered gas installer:

-Fitting a Vaillant EcoTec Plus 831 condensing combi boiler, in the airing cupboard upstairs
-Reconnecting Existing radiatiors
-Fitting vertical, stainless steel balanced flue terminal
-Fitting a Grundfos, variable head circulating pump, complete with isolating valves
-Removal of existing hot water cylinder
-Removal of existing cold water tank
-A new Drayton 711 timeswitch to be fitted
-6 Honeywell TRVs to be fitted to existing radiators
-6 lockshield valves
-One Anti-vacuum valve and non-return device to be fitted to main cold water supply to conform to water board requirements.
-Pipe insulation as req
-Pipework to be copper tube (not microbore) to BS 2871, Table X Spec.
-Pipework to be concealed where possible, using compression and capillary fittings
-Carry out necessary electrical wiring between mains supply, boiler and ancillary controls. Power supply to be separately fused and switched and a control panel fitted adjacent to boiler
-All materials and labour for installation, disconnecting existing system and removal of existing equipment from site.
-Fitting towel rail warmer (supplied by clients)
-Add chemical cleaner approx 1 week prior to work commencing
-1 year guarantee on all new equipment and workmanship ( 2 year guarantee on boiler)

Total Cost inc VAT: £3,382.83

As a FTB I'm not sure if this is a good quote or not, this is the only quote we have so far but will be arranging a few others this week. Do you think this is a good quote.....we are in North Birmingham by the way.

Thanks in advance,

Claire

Sounds like a good enough quote. I am no expert however.

We are getting a central heating system put in with completely new piping and with 6 radiators. Our system is a combi bolier connected to a 210 Litre unvented cylinder tank (megaflo type system) to increase the water pressure as we will have two bathrooms with showers. A new connection to the outside Thames Water mains will also be fitted with a new larger pipe to increase volume.

We have a choice of Ariston & Potterton and the cost is about £6,500 inc VAT. I live in London.

Sorry but your quote is a bit confusing, is he quoting to fit an 831 combi AND a seperate pump? Not sure what an anti vacuum valve is in this context? Where are the condensate and pressure relief pipesfrom the boiler going to terminate? I have never seen a stainless steel vertical terminal on a domestic boiler.
Depending on the age of the existing system I would probably go for a full powerflush when changing to a combi, have you been advised that the extra pressure may show up any weak spots, (leaks) in the system.

Also does the quote include registration of the boiler and issuing of a minor electrical works certificate.

Perhaps ask him to explain more fully or get a couple more quotes.

Bauk the makes you have listed are not that well regarded in the industry.
Mine needed a new fan so that must be whats wrong with yours:D

I have to say I'm very confused by it all, as I have no idea about central heating!

I should have made it clearer, the quote says that the Grundfos pump will be fitted in he main heating circuit within the boiler casing.........does that mean it's not a separate pump?

I have no idea about the anti-vacuum valve, think I will have to ring up and ask the installer what that means and ask about registration of the boiler and minor electrical works certificate. The airing cupboard is on the first floor of the property, and the installer seemed to think it would be easy to fit a vertical flue terminal.....is this something many installers would advise against?

Have arranged to get some more quotes done later this week.

    Thanks

i dont get it, combi's come with a pump pre installed, sounds like he might be trying to bulk his quote out a little bit there,

not a bad price, but a separate pump for a combi boiler arouses suspicion as you dont need it! For an accurate assessment, get more quotes

i am also in north bham if you need to pm me.
