What cable is required for connecting a minidv camcorder to a p.c?

Options
I have a mini dv camcorder and want to connect it to the p.c. Apart from the the av socket there's a dv socket no. IEEE1394. What cable do I need to connect it, presumably to the USB port of the p.c?

You need an IEEE1394 cable and you'll need a corresponding port on your PC. It's commonly know as Firewire. This would typically be the sort of cable you would use and if you don't have port on your PC you can add using a card like this.

camcorders normally have a 4pin port on them
laptops normally have a 4pin port
apple laptops have a 6pin port
desktop computers have a 6pin port.

There isn't a way to hook it up via USB unfortunately.

Also, you'll need video software to be able to take the video off, it isn't a drag and drop thing like photos

if it doesnt have a cd-rom with it for transfering video then windows movie maker will allow you to transfer to your pc. there is bound to be plenty of other free downloadable software that you can use if you dont want to use windows.
