Suit shrunk after dry cleaning

Options
Hi, I hope this is the right place for this thread.

I took my suit (skirt, trousers and jacket) to be dry cleaned last week and when I went to put it on yesterday morning it was tighter than I remembered. I thought maybe I was in denial and had put on a few pounds but I've weighed myself and that's not the case. The trousers and jacket sleeves are also shorter so my only conclusion is that the dry cleaners have managed to shrink it. I've also noticed that half of one of the buttons is missing! I'm planning to take it back later today and complain but don't know what I should ask for as compensation. It's not a cheap suit and would cost about £250 to replace. Any suggestions? Should I try for the full amount? I'm really pi**ed off about it. It takes me ages to find a suit I like and fits and I need it for a load of meetings in a couple of weeks so will now have to spend this weekend shopping.

Not experienced this myself, but I would do some quick research and find an equivalent suit and get details (printed or in an alternative physical format; page from catalogue, etc...) of the cost to replace and take that with me for reference.

    Hope you get sorted.

Thanks. I'm sure I still have the receipt somewhere. I was just wondering whether to ask for the full replacement cost or knock some off for wear and tear. I guess start high and see what they offer.

Definitely go for the cost of a replacement - they have ruined your suit.

You'll have to go for cost - fair wear and tear tbh but add on a little for hassle, original cost of the cleaning etc.

I'd go for a refund on the cost of the dry cleaning, plus a reasonable amount to replace a suit of that age i.e. if you'd had it a year, then perhaps £100 rather than £250?

On insurance claims, they take the age of the item into consideration.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Just a quick update. I took the suit into the cleaners and they need to send it to Head Office to be examined by their experts under a microscope or something. It'll take about two weeks. I have a copy of the statement they are sending with the suit.
