I have windows vista and have heard that the firewall on it is better than that on xp.
On xp i used to use comodo firewall, is the vista firewall good enough or should I go for comodo?

If I remember correctly they have improved the firewall on Vista, and it is certainly better than having nothing protecting you, however it is still not as good as a dedicated firewall. Some broadband routers these days actually have firewalls built into them and therefore you would get away without having one on the machine itself (unless you are on a network and are worried about people on that network hacking in). If on the other hand your modem/router doesn't have a firewall built in then I would recommend getting a firewall installed. I tend to prefer AVG, although it is not free for the firewall edition, i do know it works very well on Vista.
Hope that helps

The firewall on Vista is perfectly adequate in my opinion for most peopel, coupled with the fact that nearly all modern routers have built in hardware firewalls. If you really want to have an alternate software firewall it wouldn't be something I'd waste money on, there are a number of free ones out there such as Onlinw Armor Free, Comodo or Kerio free. All do as good a job as the paid ones for the average home user, but as I said so does Vista'sHope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

If you're using a router with a firewall built in, then the Vista software firewall will be more than adequate.0

Seconded be_alrights post. TBH, I've never used a third party firewall, even on XP. The only reason to have a firewall that inspects outbound connections is to prevent malware on your PC talking to the outside world. A router does an ample job of protecting you from inbound stuff.0

Yeah I agree. If you're regulary running spyware, antivirus and common sense then there's little need for a software firewall.0 -

For the OP.
Just to point out that while Online Armor is a good firewall, it is not yet compatible with Vista.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Thanks a lot for all your replys, so having the vista firewall with the firewall on my netgear router is good enough0
