Calculating the amount of tiles - mathematical genius required

:rotfl: I need to order some tiles and I really don't think I can get my head round this tonight and if I do, I know I will only order not enough or too many so can anyone help me please.

I have got as far as measuring the bathroom so here goes:

The floor is: (the floor tiles are 45cm square and are a different shape to the walls)

254cm x 116 cm

The walls are: (these tiles are a bit wider but not as deep as the floor tiles and I will be having a little border round the edge)

75cm x 238cm
190cm x 86 cm (minus a bit where the bath sits)
175cm x 186cm
185cm x 240cm (minus a small window and the other end of where the bath sits)
253cm x 240cm
102cm x 240cm (minus the door)

I am tiling floor to ceiling.

Please don't ask me to ask the shop because I am not getting them from a shop as such

How many square meters of floor and wall tiles do I need or how the flip do I work it out without poking my eyes out with my pencil :rotfl:

Thank you

Take a look at the floor tile calculator here. It reckons that you need 35 tiles minimum but you should add on for cuts and breakages.

There's a wall tile calculator that works out the square metres that you need here. It reckons you need 19.634 less the window, door and where the bath sits which I can't calculate as you haven't given measurements!

However, without the actual size of the wall tiles I can't work out how many you need! The tiles should tell you how many make up a square metre (for example, you would need 100 tiles if they are 10cm square). You can then multiply that number by the square metres you need.

    Just doing a basic calculation, I think you need 15 floor tiles ie 2.54 x 1.16 divided by .45 x .45.

I calculate the walls to 19.56 m2. Again, not sure how big your window and door are and also the terms like 'minus a bit where the bath sits' were not a phrase I came across in algebra!

what do you mean, aren't all windows, doors and baths the same size  :rotfl:

I wasn't that precise simply because I'd rather have a few extra a) for breakages during fitting, b)for breakages in the future and in case the tiles become discontinued. I didn't bring a sample of the wall tiles home so not sure of the exact measurement but they match the design of the floor tiles.

I just don't want millions extra or start faffing with buying more when the tiler is here!
You are stars, you have given me enough of an idea for what I need :T

Hang on a minute, one of you says 15 floor tiles the other 35  I think 15. Gonna have to have a fiddle with that tile calculator malarky.

Just calculate the total surface area and then divide that by the area of a tile to give a rough idea, then add 10% for wastage.

ie: if wall 1 is a1*b1
    wall2 is a2*b2

    do (a1*b1)+(a2*b2).....
then divide by the area of a tile.

Ignoring the doors/windows that's approx 195,000 square cm.
    ie: about 20 sq metres.

if you go to topps tiles with your measurements they will do the calculations for you
and will take any extra back for a refund
