MBNA - 9months 0% - with free DVD player

Options
I have been sent an offer by MBNA for 9 months 0% on balance transfers - since I'm due a balance transfer anyway it seems attractive - they offer a free DVD player with your first use of the card.

My question is - I can't seem to find a minimum spend on it and so was thinking of using it to pay for something that's £1 and transferring my balance over - does anyone know of any catches that I'm missing about the first use having a minimum spend?

MBNA charge £50 admin fee to do any BT :(
  • Is this true with all MBNA BT's?  I thought that there was no charge if you requested the BT with your application

I could be wrong - could someone let me know?

  • MBNA say they may charge for BTs, but so far it seems that they do not charge for BTs that you make with your card application. There is no minimum spend required on the card. You can just BT straight from your other card to MBNA (although I have heard that they prefer you not to exceed 98% of your limit). :)

As I understand it, you don't have to make a purchase; a balance transfer constitutes "use". If in doubt, ring them to clarify.

Unbelievable, IMO it`s better if you can apply online if granted they send out a letter with credit limit for you to sign agreement  also envelope to rtn with BT request form on ( no mention of fee or % limit)
Send an application form in & you have already signed
so have to phone for BT & are informed  of fees & limits!!!!
  • I just cancelled my Virgin (MBNA) and then applied for Allience & Leicester (MBNA) at 9 months 0%

It says that for Balance transfers made with the application, no charges will be occured.

Afterwards, you get charged a maximum of £35 not £50 as mentioned on this thread

  • I spoke to an MBNA consultant today, he confirmed they are charging £35 on all BTs (introduced last month). They will transfer funds direct to your bank account or another credit card.
The only credit card I can find that also transfers direct to bank a/cs and doesn't charge a transfer fee is EggCard.

I transfer balances from new credit cards to my EggCard and then phone them and request they deposit the funds to my bank a/c. The EggCard is a keeper! :)
