returning an item to boots without a receipt?

hi

i was brought some straightners for my birthday by a friend of mine but i would like either to exchange them for the wide plate straightners, as i have very thick hair, or get the money refunded onto a gift card. but the problem is i dont have the receipt? do you think they would exchange them or refund me onto a giftcard so i can get something that i will use.

any help would be appreciated.

Funnily enough, I've been in and asked them about this today. I was bought a haidryer by my gran for my birthday a few weeks ago.

They said so long as it's in its complete packaging and unopened, you can exchange for something else (or maybe they'll give you a giftcard instead - I didn't ask that bit).

I know if I've ever wanted to return anything to a store without the receipt I normally just give the local branch a ring and ask if I could do it - If they say yes I take their name. You normally only get the price in store on that day (if the item has been reduced etc).

I recently change a hair dryer for a travel hair dryer without a receipt no problems.

There was a sign at the till yesterday that said that if you do not have a receipt they will exchange only. It also stated that they would not give a refund or a giftcard without a receipt.

I expect the "exchange only" option has been brought in while the 3 for 2 offer is on over Christmas. Otherwise people could be buying goods and returning them for a gift card with 33% extra on it!

The policy changed a couple of months ago.
They used to give you the money back on a gift card if you didnt have a receipt but now they will only exchange it for you.

Nope, just tried today. You have to spend it then and there.
