Fitting new sockets - can I (legally)?

I'm busy doing up my new house and one of the things we want to do is replace all of the existing power sockets in the house with new faceplates.
I have done all of the light fittings and lightswitches already but power sockets are what concerns me.
Having taken off a couple, it seems straightforward - Red Wires (live), black wires (neutral), green/yellow wires (earth). Now, I'm confident that I can change them (i.e., turning the power off, testing the cable for current, disconnecting the old socket and connecting the new one). However, I'm concerned that new electrical regulations seem to restrict what the competent DIYer can do nowadays.
Do I need to get an electricians to do the work or am I legally able to do this myself?
Cheers

You can replace the faceplates of existing sockets without breaking any laws."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

best to put an earth wire from back box(if metal) to socket(if metal).
You would only have to do this if you are changing from plastic to metal.0
