Im wondering if anyone can help me? I have 2 massive dogs so ive been saving for a few years now to buy a KIA SPORTAGE diesel 4x4, as at around £7000 for a 04/05 plate it was doable, ive read that all 4x4 and that one is £400 a year in car tax ?? Is this true ??
also dose anyone no of any car near the same as thats car tax is cheeper??
I cant belive its the same price as some landrovers/rangerovers when theres a £40,000 price diffrance!
I realy need a good sized car for my dogd and family but cant aford to be paying stupid money on car tax so if anyone knows of anything that might help ?? would be grate thanks.:j

Yes it's true as the tax is on emissions not price or engine size
To be honest, for the £100 extra tax over a "non gas guzzler", I would ask for a discount from the seller to offset it.0 -
Ask yourself do you really need a 4x4? There are plenty of big estate cars out there where you'll be paying less than half that in tax, probably cheaper to run too.0

We've just bought an '04 Peugeot 307 SW. It's an estate but can have 2 extra seats to make it a 7 seater. It's a 2litre turbo diesel HDI and the tax is only £115 for the year! That's half the price of the 1.8 TD Focus we had. I'm well chuffed. Do you have kids? If not you could put the back seats down for more room if your dogs are that big.Sealed Pot Challenge #817 £50 banked0

Good point, this is why all these big 4x4s are so cheap to buy 2nd hand. But who wants one now the running costs are so high?0 -
Consider a classic?
My mate recently bought a 1964 series Land Rover. Absolutely pristine condition, resprayed and well tidy. He paid £2k for it. He has actually taken it to several classic car shows in the region.
Road tax ? .... FREE!!!
Insurance ? ... Dead cheap!0 -
Car Tax search facility on parkers.co.uk should help you.
The Sportage changed at 05 reg so i couldn't guess for you.
05 reg 2.0D XS is £215 in 2009 then £235 in 2010 though as an example

7 or 8 seater, diesel, large boot, comfy seats all round, on the 7 seater, gangway in the middle set of seats for dogs to walk in and out of without having to go on seats, or plenty of room in boot for them.
Drove all over europe in one of these, with OH, 3 teenagers and 2 very large dogs, plus camping gear and kayaks on the roof.
Tesco insurance very cheap and car tax the same as a Fiesta, hard to find these but they are becoming increasingly popular.
Get some strange names for it though from people who see it
