Post Office wont cash my IB Giro

Hi,

I just went to my local post office who told me they wont cash my IB giro - they said that it was crossed and that it was too large (£510) but just a few weeks ago i went in and got it cashed no problem.

At the moment i dont have a bank account as im gettin a new one due to bank charges so i cant even cash it at a bank!

It doesnt say A/C Payeee only - just has some stars down it...The job centre know i dont have an account at the moment as i havent sent bank account forms back to them.

Any idea what i can do?

Unless things have changed since i worked for the BA (as it was then!), there is an upper limit on the value of a giro that can be cashed at the PO. I do remember people bringin back high value giro's and asking for them to be split into 2 smaller Giro's. Perhaps you could go into your local office and ask if this can still be done.

Hi Anything over £450 is normally only payable via a bank account. You should ring them and request that they reissue you with two smaller ones that you are able to cash at a post office. You will have to return it first though before they are able to replace it.

You will need to book an appointment (you cannot now just walk in), at your local Jobcentre to return the giro, and also ask for replacements that you can cash at a PO.
