Private Buyer with no feedback score?

I've just sold my phone on Ebay & am really pleased with the amount it went for, BUT the winning bidder is 'private' but has no feedback score at all.

Because its auch an expensive item, i'm a bit wary, my spidey senses are tingling, what information can I ask for to confirm address etc are valid?

I am sending it recorded, but is there a more secure postage I could use?

Thank you, sorry for being a pain today

I think if the buyer's address is confirmed, do not worry. if NOT, it is better not to send. I would like use Special Delivery. HTH

I don't want to burst your bubble, but mobile phone + good selling price + low/private feedback usually = nigerian scammer. Keep an eye out for fake paypal email receipts.

If the buyer is genuine, and the phone is over £36, then you need to use special delivery to protect yourself against a paypal chargeback anyway. And I think that RM don't insure mobile phones being sent abroad.

Definitely! I once sold a mobile and was offred 100.00 extra to post to Nigeria and then got 'emails from Paypal' saying they had the money but that it woudl be released when they had confirmation from Nigeria that the buyer had received the phone. So of course I snet the phone straight away ... NOT!!!! :rotfl:

I emailed the buyer saying he would be reported and started the NPB dispute and then a few days later got an email from the Metroplitan Police saying I was being investigated for fraud as I had not snet the phone but was in receipt of the money etc. Of course I believed this to be genuine as I'm sure that all Metropolitan Police emails come with a cartoon of a police car and big blue siren! And of course, the most convincing part was thatthey stated that should I not send the phone within 7 days I would face execution!

Anyway .. as long as you have a uK address and send special delivery you should be ok!

I sold my phone earlier to a 'private' bidder with no feedback, they requested an invoice, which I sent.

However, I just received an e-mail claiming to be from Paypal, saying click this link etc, it says :

This payment is pending because it was sent in a currency in which you do not currently hold a balance.Get back to us with the Shipment Tracking details so that we can verify that the item has been shipped and transfer the funds deducted from the buyer's PayPal account to your account. If you have any question or you want to send the Shipment Tracking details to us at: paydesk@europe.com You can also send the Shipment Tracking details to the buyer if you want.

Is it me, or would I be an idiot to send the goods before I receive payment?

How can I cancel this transaction? Do I just hit the non paying bidder button?

Check PayPal, and find that no such message exists.

    It's a scam.

I'll merge this with the other thread.

thanks guys, I really appreciate the help. blinking grrrrrrr at the scammer

have offered a second chance offer, fingers crossed.
  • Also, the chances of a genuine newbie working out how to make themselves private or realising it even exists is rather slim.
