What file cannot be found? Shortcuts.exe doesn't sound right shouldn't you be using shutdown.exe

The command to shutdown a pc (that you could then make a shortcut to) would be:
    shutdown.exe -s - t 00
That will shut the pc down. The bit after t is the time it waits before doing it (in seconds).
More details of other options I've just found here

Or if you're running Linux, the equivalent is

    shutdown now -P

You need to run this as root.

Sorry, i ment shutdown.exe-s-t 00, but it still comes up with "the file shutdown. exe-s-t 00 cannot be found!

    XP
you create a batch file with the command in,.
    (eg command is "c:\windows\system32\shutdown.exe -s -f -t 0" )
(open note pad, type the command in, file save as, c:\windows\system32\shutnow.bat [type=ansi])
don't miss out spaces as space is an important thing.

you create a short cut to the batch file shutnow.bat on the desktop (right click, new, short cut)

you change the icon to the shutdown icon (righ click, properties, change icon)

you drag the shortcut into the quick start tool bar.

    hey presto

you accidentally click the button and loose the work you were doing.

How about a one mouse click method, with keyboad as well?
tap the "windows" key, click the "Turn Off Computer" and then tap the "enter" key.
    Still one click.
