smp and other benefits

My sis is going on her smp next week, she works 24 hours a week. but will only be gettin min smp. can she claim for is or somethink.
I only ask beceuse when i had my first son i was working full time, and i got min smp i claimed for is and got £1.97 a week off them, so i could claim for my sure start grant.

You may find you get an answer later-the people who really know the benefits work for them and generally come on later.

anymore details about your sister. Is she a single mum?

She should be able to claim the sure start grant up until the baby is 3 months if she is claiming the higher rate of child tax credits.

Until the baby is born she will probably not be entitled to anything else.

Once the baby is born she can claim for child benefit, child & working tax credit and as long as her income is less that £58,000 she will qualify for the sure start maternity grant - will probably need to wait until tax credit claim is sorted before she can claim the grant.

Unless she's a single parent/disabled/carer and her partner works under 24 hours per week, she can't get is.

If your sister is within 11 weeks of her EDC (Estimated Date of Confinement) then she is eligible to claim IS.
However, if she has more than£16k or if she has a partner who is working more than 24 hours a week then she won't be able to receive IS.
In addtion, the SMP that she receives may be more than she is entitled to for Income Support.
It may be worth claiming anayway, as you don't know if you don't ask!!! If you do make a claim for IS, if you enclose your last 2 wage slips as it will mean that you get a decision - and possibly some money earlier!
