Hi all,
I have NTL PCguard for my p.c anti virus scan fire wall etc... is this enough protection for my computer ?

I have been getting alot of warning notices from windows Support centre saying my p.c is a threat and to get spywear for it . freinds have said ignore it , it is just a advert but i'm not so sure what should i do ?

I did load a spywear scan on but it just made me get more and more warnings of threats but never corrected them .so i removed it thought it was a scam

I'm getting loads of pop ups when im on the web from 888 .com and loan companies ?

    Hi Katie,

I would (and do) advise people to download Spybot and Adaware. They are both free and get rid of tracking cookies and other rubbish that clutters up your sytem.

I used to work on the second line team at Blueyonder up until about a year ago and I would definately advise removing PCG. It has a tendancy to cause more problems than it can prevent. Its far better to have seperate products that work. Such as:-

    Kerio (free firewall)
    Spybot (antispyware)
    AVG (antivirus).

As long as you arent going onto every dodgy site you find and clicking every advert that pops up they will be fine.

Download and Install and Run: SuperAntiSpyware

You can get the Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite free with TrialPay here.

There are other options if that does not suit.

Don't get rid of PC Guard until you have downloaded and saved(but not installed) your new PC protection solution.

you certainly dont ever want to be in a situation were you are connected to the internet and not have anything protecting you. keep that in mind if you do replace it with something else. of course i am no expert on this. i think it is usually recomended to have the windows firewall turned on when changing. that would probably be needed if you get one online. personally i would want to play safe and just buy one from a shop and then install the cd. that should do everything you need like removing the old software. the instruction booklet should explain what do do regarding this and keeping safe while installing the new software. actually if i remember correctly with norton 360 i had to be connected to the net while istalling it but i think that is were i am getting the idea about having windows firewall turned on while doing so. after it is fully installed and working you would then turn the windows firewall off because it can conflict with the firewall within norton 360.

If you are happy using pcguard, you can add additional programs like Spybot Search and destroy here You should only run one active anti-virus program but as many spyware detection programs as you want.
