Direct Holidays Credit card charge

I have just paid the balance of my holiday with Direct Holidays and had a shock as they have charged me £50 for paying with a credit card. Is this 'normal'? Any help would be appreciated.

it depends how much you have paid on your card. it actually costs retailers to accept credit cards (around 3% of the value of the purchase). when you buy something in a shop, they tend to swallow it because of the amounts involved, but when you are talking in the £100s or £1000s, then the fee to businesses is heavy, so they tend to pass that on if you want to pay by card.

so, if it is a large sum and their terms say there is a 2 - 3% fee for paying by credit card, then that might be right. if you pay by debit card there should be no charge (it only costs pennies to clear a debit card payment through a bank).

That does seem vey high I booked with My Travel and they charged £4.95 for using a credit card,

Direct Holidays are part of My Travel group so I would challenge the huge charge

Quite simply, the margin in travel is far below most industries, so travel companies cannot absorb the amount they are charged by the credit card providers, so they have to pass on that figure.

I have no doubt that some profiteer (by rounding the figure up) but I know that the vast majority actually round the figure down.

I have been on the phone to them for the last half an hour, they keep passing me round from one to another. They said it was because I paid over the phone, if I had done it on-line it would have been £2.95, but the on-line payment system is down so I am going to phone again!

cheeky ***s! it's not like they are paying £47.05 for your phone call to pay your bill.

    don't let it drop!

Eventually got through to someone who was able to help me. She told me that it is 2.5% charge for paying with a credit card , when I said that it stated £2.95 on the website she checked it and got her manager to authorise a refund for me so I am quite pleased as I was just going to leave it. :T

Since the merger you cant pay on line, you cant even view your booking on line.
