Sort of started a new job, when to inform Tax credits?

I have sort of started a new job.
Basially it's working in a care home, but the care home has not opened yet, so for the last week (plus 2 other days since June 1st) we have been doing in house training.
I was told that because they have not received my CRB check back yet they cannot pay me on the 28th June, as my contract will not have started.
Fast forward to this weekend, I receive a letter from head office to say I'm on the system for payment, and can I complete the bank details form and the P46 one, so called them, only to be told that I'm only on the system as 'bank staff' which means that I would be paid a month in arrears anyway, making my 1st pay day July 28th.
For the month of June I will have worked about 68 hours all in all, but as my CRB is not back yet and I'm not allowed to work in any of the homes until then, I am not guarunteed any hours in July apart from the odd training day.
So, do I tell Tax credits I'm working now?
I'm a lone parent by the way, and claim Housing benefit and am really worried about how it all effects it

You would inform Tax Credits at the start of the week you will be working 16+ hours. You need to be working 16+ hours p/w for at least 4 continual weeks to qualify for WTC, so maybe best to wait until your CRB has come back and you start work properly.0
