Hello all, this is the first place I thought of to get an answer to my problem - hope you can help.
My Dad bought an LCD TV from Comet on 29/04/07 and last Friday it more or less stopped working. Basically, the TV has frozen on BBC1 and we can't change the channel unless we turn digital off and watch terrestrial, which is obviously rubbish. I thought I'd try to reset the TV by re-scanning for channels, but I can access that part of the menu.
The TV cost £719.10 (it was £799.00, but my brother had a 10% discount) and my Dad says that it only comes with a one year's worth of guarantee, but I am sure I heard or read somewhere that if the product is something expensive like a TV, the company selling it should fix or replace it, regardless of guarantee, for a up to a few years.
Am I right? How do I go about getting the TV repaired? I have yet to speak to them as I thought I'd get advice on here first.
Thanks in advance.

as far as I'm aware you only get the standard one year manufacturer's guarantee when you purchase goods, unless of course you pay extra and take out the extended guarantee
Your first port of call would be Comet. They have their own fleet of repair engineers.0 -
Damn. No extended guarantee.0

I think you've got 6 years under the SoGA to put in a claim.
To expect a TV to last for 1 year is ridiculous, especially seeing as you had paid so much money for it.

That's what I said to my Dad. It didn't seem right.0 -

I do wish people would stop spreading this useless piece of information !
You have to prove that the equipment was built with a fault or it is a bad design - if you have a fleet of lawyers and electronics experts you might, possibly, stand a chance, otherwise forget it !!0 -
Silly question maybe but have you tried unplugging the set from the wall, waiting for a few minutes and then trying again. That gum you like is coming back in style.0
-
Yep, unfortunately. We rarely have it on standby - turning it on and off at the wall makes no odds.0
