n power have sent me a bill this morning saying they have upped my payment by 20 a month starting from july 21st. I dont like the way they just send these letters saying they will take money.

Anhoo i cant afford a rise like this as well as all my other bills. I know im not alone but is there anything i can do about it. What if you cant afford it?

Ensure that your latest bill is based on a meter reading (if not provide them with one and ask them to reassess your monthly payment), shop around and switch supplier, look at reducing your consumption. Ultimately you have to pay for what you use, they're only upping the payments in line with what you use and the cost of the fuel - same as petrol, food or anybody on a water meter.

Can you change any habits? Always switch lights off behind you, turn things off an night, put on another layer to keep warm, have you changed your light bulbs (supermarkets are regularly doing promotions on these), etc, etc.

Have you insulated your house? I did mine with a grant through my supplier at a cost of £325 two years ago for loft and wall insulation - it should have paid for itself by now.

thanks i cant reduce my consumption anymore than i do and have all measures in place. I will give them a recent reading meter altho i dont think it will make any difference they are always asking me to up the payment.

Its about time something was done about this people cant afford to live?

I had something similar but from British Gas saying they were upping the monthly payment from 50 to 100 despite from the readings they say my monthly usage ranges from 35 - 50 and that it would be aotumatically taken out from next July!!!!
They took it from an estimated reading - cheeky beggars.

The best and easiest thing to do is compare suppliers and see if it's cheaper to move elsewhere.
