Water Softeners

I'm having a combi boiler fitted, and I live in a very hard water area. I'm going to need a scale inhibitor, but I'm thinking of going the whole hog and getting a water softener. Is that a good idea, or would a basic magnetic inhibitor do the job OK? Can you run a high volume combi boiler off a water softener anyway - British Gas website seems to imply not. we have very good mains pressure and flow. The boiler is going to serve two bath/shower rooms, so it's going to be a big one. Anyone's experiences would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you want to get a softener don't mess about with the "magnetic" ones they are a waste of space.
If you do a search on this site there are several threads on this subject. I have had softeners in my last three houses over 30 + years and wouldn't be without one.
The trouble is that softeners now seem to be the "hunting ground" for sharks who couldn't make the grade selling dodgy cars or double glazing !
I have always bought the basic single cylinder type, they are cheap and reliable. You will come across people who will tell you that twin cylinder machines are the only ones to buy. IMHO they are expensive to buy (sometimes twice the price of a single cylinder) and often use a special type of salt that you can only buy at premium prices - waste of money !
Idea of prices on this Link (I've got the cheapest one shown, in the cupboard under the kitchen sink !)

Have a magnetic one "Scale Wizard", and it's useless, makes no difference at all, complete waste of money.0
