  • That is actually dyspraxia.

I have a 9yr old dyspraxic son who is extremely bright but yet his motor skills are that of a 6yr old.
Many dyslexic children are also dsyprasic and vice versa. The two are closely interlinked and the difficulties common to both .

    sorry for the delay.

    Draft Letter no.1.

    To the SENCO,
    Dear Sir/Madam
I feel that my child needs more help than the school can provide at school action/school action plus.

I would like you to give my child all the help possible and also ask the LEA to do a statutory assessment.

please can we meet as soon as possible,

    yours sincerely...

Hi - sorry I haven't read all the thread but I wouldn't start with requesting statutory assessment as this probably isn't a long term special educational need. What would be more helpful is some support for anxiety/school refusal - approaches such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy are particularly helpful. It might be worth a telephone conversation with your local educational psychologist to see if they can offer support. They would look at possible causes which can be many and varied (separation anxiety, social anxiety or phobia, bullying and teasing, low self esteem, academic perfectionism, body image (can be relevant to PE), health anxiety, exam stress to name but a few... )

(I'm an EP and have worked in this way. We are currently developing joint protocols with our Education Welfare Service to look at support for children and young people with school phobia/school refusal.)
