can you recommend a high spec laptop pls?

Options
Hi

I am after a new laptop which has the following spec which I have put in priority order

intel core 2 duo, ideally 8100 on but would go lower
2gb ram (must) prefer 3gb
256mb graphics card min

I am looking at the HP6799 & 6899 but would welcome your thoughts as to what else may be good.

Max price circa £800 but ideally £700 tops

can you recommend any others?

why the cpu top of the list, unless you compile a lot of code or game (in which case you need a very good graphics card)

what do you actually want do do with it, ram is easy as it costs buttons and cpu isnt a big deal but there is a lot of other stuff like screen size, vitulization enabled bios, multiple hard drive bays, firewire ports etc

fyi the GPU is the biggest difference between a standard and high end laptop but you need to take some serious time looking at the benchmarks of the games you want to play cause it is complicated.

odds are it will be cheaper to get an xbox360 and a normal laptop
  • I got the same spec (ok, it might have been a 128 mb graphics card, tho) in feb this year, for a couple of quid short of £500.

Dell, vostro 1500. Great machine, check it out on dell
    I can spell - but I can't type
