Flying to Singapore in Sept - looking for cheap flight or code for airline....

Has anyone got any ideas/thoughts for 2 Adults for Singapore.

I'll be travelling with my mum so ideally direct flight would be better, but if not then perhaps a stop without hours of waiting around.

Mum said 7 years ago she paid £380 for return flight with BA - price is now around £580 upwards, some with HUGE waits at Dubai.

Anyone have any ideas for a good price without huge waiting times and with a good quality airline?

Thanks in advance

Try giving Dial a flight a call. Their number is on their website - www.dialaflight.com If you put the number into www.saynoto0870.com then you will find a cheaper landline number to call. I found them to be the cheapest place for a flight i booked a few weeks ago. Hope it helps. xxx

£380 is no longer possible, it's a LONG flight, and the increased cost of fuel comes to about £150 for the round trip (though much of this is currently hedged). £600 is the new £400 when it comes to South East Asian flights I'm afraid.

    Yes yes yes!

    BA taxes & surcharges LON - SIN = £290.50
    Singapore Airlines LON - SIN = £169.70
    Emirates LON - SIN = £67.50

Most airlines are closer to BA than Singapore Airlines, and no-one is close to Emirates, but their fares are either much higher, or much cheaper when brought as an IT fare.

    But £600 = the new £400.

Note re: what Richard said, Virgin don't fly to Singapore, but they do codeshare on Singapore Airlines, so maybe he has an inside track to reduce the price on Singapore Airlines?

I have seen VS codes on SQ metal cheaper than SQ, but it doesn't always happen, but worth a hunt around, SQ don't lose out they own a big share of Virgin.

Yes, it's a pretty good deal. Unfortunately you can't get the miles plus money fares on this routeing: last time I flew Virgin, I got a great deal this way, and I got the miles for free anyway. THere doesn't appear to be anything I can do with my 10,000 miles otherwise.....

I need nonstop flights to KL or SIN in July (for a connection to MES), and the costs are looking pretty horrible, last time I went (two years ago) it came to £500 inclusive on SQ including free onward local connection (just £20 extra on the taxes).

I have just checked with SQ, and:

LHR - SIN, or any other regional airport is, base 'Flexi Saver' fare, before charges:

    £562 through 25th June
    £625 26th June - 4th July
    £726 5th July - 15th August
    £567 17th August
    £535 18th August - 30 November
    £668 1 December
    £816 15 December

    LHR - SIN taxes £169.70

Taxes are higher if you add on a local connection, though the base fare is the same:

    LHR - MES taxes £202.50

Child fare is 75% of adult, plus full taxes. Infant fare I assume is 10% of adult.

    Flights LHR-SIN are SQ317 (A380) LHR 11:55, arrv SIN 07:45, SQ319 (747) 18:30, arrv 14:20, SQ321 (747) 22:05 arrv 17:55, and return:
    SQ308 (747) dept SIN 09:05 arrv LHR 15:30, SQ318 (747) 12:45 arrv 19:10, SQ322 (a380) 23:30 arrv 05:55

I read that SQ318 and SQ321 are going to be operated by A380 four days a week from 16th July, I take it the schedule is not actually being expanded, the 744 is just being deployed elsewhere?

    My connection SIN -MES is MI232 dept SIN 07:30 arrv 07:55, MI238 dept SIN 19:20 arrv 19:45, and MI236 depart SIN 14:40 on Fridays only arrv 15:05, MES - SIN is MI233 08:40 arrv 11:05, MI237 20:30 arrv 22:50, except thursdays 21:10, arrv 23:30, and MI235 16:10 arrv 18:30.

SQ321->MI238 is good, and SQ322->MI232 even better; returning MI233->SQ318 seems the only option, I think arriving 22:50 and departing 23:30 is not possible.

Conclusion: SQ to SIN bottoms out at £700 return, but December and most of July and August it is £900. I have seen promotional fares being announced close to departure before, but I am not sure that is likely now, I guess they have no difficulty selling tickets with all the A380 publicity.

MH has a more complicated pricing structure for some reason. The taxes are £255.90 return to MES or SIN. For my LHR - MES, flight MH3 LHR - KUL leaves 12:00 and arrives 07:25, while KUL-MES departs 08:50. Returning is less ideal: MES-KUL arrives 16:15 and KUL - LHR departs 23:40 (flight MH2); otherwise you have an overnight stay in KUL. Interestingly MH2 is £20 more than MH4, as is MH1 (22:00 from LHR) over MH3 (12:00 from LHR): I guess people prefer the nighttime flights. Despite pricing outbound and return legs separately, you pay more for the return leg depending on when the outbound is: if you leave before July 1, you pay £225/£245 for MH4/MH2 (the return leg), but leaving after July 1, not only do you pay £340 outbound (for either flight), they also charge you £340 inbound. (Infant fares are 10% of adult fare, plus £10.40 charges, and child fares 75% of adult fare, plus full adult taxes)

In other words, it's £928 leaving after June 30, or £698 before then. Although MH start their peak fares earlier, 1 July rather than 5 July, the prices fall again to £220/£230 each way, on 5th August (i.e. £700 return). For some reason, full fares to KUL (without the onward connection to another city) are £10 more each way, i.e. £350 each. There seems to be small variance either way in prices depending on whether you book a connection or not.

Any suggestions on a routing to MES that would come in below £700, or one in mid-July to beat £900?

    Two things -

    1) I wouldn't hope for much better in mid-july. However, no-one expected Malaysian to introduce specials from 05 August (it's normal for their fares to drop from 20 August). So if you can fit around that, do so. As from tomorrow, their prices will be about £100 more due to massive Fuel Surcharge increases.

    2) Medans a difficult one. If you are happy for an additional change why not look at indirect to KL or Jakarta? Lion and Air Asia keep the KUL/CGK - MES fares low. Otherwise, don't expect anything better from the single change airlines (MH / SQ).
